Cindy Sherman - Portrait Photography

Year 13 students doing portrait photography - or in other words - photographs of people: check out Cindy Sherman.

She is a fantastic international photographer, extremely established so there is a lot of information available on her methods and ideas. She also deals quite closely and explicitly with the concept of 'reflections of ourselves.'

Sherman deals mainly in self-portraits. She dresses up, wears a wig, and acts or pretends to someone she isn't, in general she acts as though she is a famous actress in a film, which is why she titles the 1978 works as 'untitled film still.' You may like to apply this concept to your work: What are your dreams for the future? Who do you wish you could be?

There are a few books on Cindy Sherman in the photography library.
